New School Year Reading Goal

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

After concluding my summer teacher reading (which can include professional books, teacher resource books and children's books), I've decided to undertake a project that, in theory, sounds quite easy....I've decided to try to read all of the books in the childrens section of the library that do not obviously contain ideas and beliefs contrary to Islaam. I've decided to do this because I'd like to have a handy resource notebook that lists books by age, genre, author, etc. that are appropriate to read aloud to Muslim children from birth to Grade 1 insha'Allaah. I'm hoping this will save time when planning storytimes and other literacy activities.

On average, it may be that preschool/kindergarten/grade 1 teachers easily read more than 100 pictures books a year...waallaahu a'lam. Whatever the number, I hope to complete this goal before the end of the school year and as I go, I'll post each book I've read here on the blog with a review.

In the review I'll first mention if the book is Islamically appropriate or not then I will move on to listing the age category of the book, genre, and then give a small review of the book. Each post will be under the label: Reading the Library, making them easy to find insha'Allaah.

Library card in hand....I'm off to read the library insha'Allaah!

Jazakillaahu khayr. The new layout is a bit warmer yes? *smile*. The brown seemed to...needing light...somehow.

I hope you will enjoy the reading of the library insha'Allaah.

I think I'll put the first post after Eid insha'Allaah.

Ameen Waiyyak. I think the layout is warmer. Nice and bright....then again I'm usually in the realm of picking bright/light layouts lol so I'm bias.

So if I'm understanding correctly will be you recommending read out loud books as you go along- because when I'm at the library I'm lost lol....I have no clue what books to get the girls :)

I think "Reading the Library" will help me a lot Inshaa'Allaah :)

Are all the books going to be preschool books?

  5. Assalamu alaikum,

Warm and bright is a good sah? *smile*.

What I will do is read as many of the books in the children's section, books for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners and grade 1 students insha'Allaah. I will not personally recommend a book (I'll try not to *smile*) but only give a summary of what the book is about and if there are any unislamic elements in the book/story.

For books that I would personally recommend, I will post those in the 'Storytime' section of the blog insha'Allaah. So, some books may appear twice.

A bit after the Eid insha'Allaah, I will have a post describing the format of the 'Reading the Library' posts insha'Allaah.

Insha'Allaah, 'Reading the Library' helps you tremendously when you're at the library *smile*.
