Book Review: This non-fiction book on sharks teaches children an impressively large amount of information about sharks without overwhelming them. The writing style is light and funny which may help connect children to the text easily and quickly. The illustrations in the book are colourful with just the right amount of scariness (but not too scary insha'Allaah) that children expect when they hear the word shark. By the end of the book your students and/or children may find that their view of sharks has changed.

This book may also be a nice book to add to your classroom library for the point in the year when you study ocean animals and habitats and your students engage in a bit of independent research. A note of caution: On page 10 when the author is discussing the Lantern Shark, she says the sharks have built-in fairy lights. When reading this book aloud to children skip the word fairy and perhaps use "light bulbs" or another similar word. If you purchase this copy for your classroom, it is easy to simply black this word out or use a piece of green construction paper to conceal it (the page is green).
